I posted this on the W212 forum as well, as I am not sure how to "cross-post"
Can anyone please give me some guidance as to how to remove the shifter console and ash tray lid from the W212 E63? It is the shinny metal portion of the included pic (both sides and the ashtray cover)

I put a small scratch on the metal. I tried to "fix" it by lightly applying rubbing compound to it and made it worse.
Called the dealer for a replacement part and it is $600!! So my plan is to remove the piece and matching ashtray lid and have it painted black to match the car. I can take it to the shop and leave it there for a couple of days or I can remove the pieces and keep my car comfortably at home.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
