I presently have a leased company car,a 2010 MB E550 4matic with just about every option .I've decided to leave the company. I can pick up the lease, buy the car or buy a new 2011 BMW X6 for about the same money. The BMW is about the only vehicle that can perform the same as the MB, has nearly all the options and has 4 wheel drive(I need 4 wheel drive). Am I crazy to consider this ?

Should I just keep the E550? It is a great car; it has great performance and every imaginable option; but thr BMW would be a new car all maintainece paid for for 4 years .All unbiased opinions and biased opinions please way in. I only have less than a weeks to make the decision and the transaction.

Regards,

Tom

I have never been inside nor driven either car. I did see an X6 in a prkaing lot recently. Everytime I see the X6 I am reminded of the Pontiac Aztec. Remember them?
If you can find the episode of Top Gear (BBC version) featuring the X6 you may get an idea of the Good, The Bad & The Ugly. Mostly the last two. The episode was rerun a couple weeks ago.
It sounds to me like you are pleased with the E550. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" come to mind.

They are such different vehicles, I do not know if there is a comparison that would make sense. Moving from GL to an X6 I would think would make for a more meaningful comparison. Anyhow, what difference does it make. If you lease, and like the X6, just go for it.

There is no way they can be compared. SUV vs Sedan, apples and oranges.
Beauty and the Beast. :D

I will leave that to individual taste.

I'm a straight shooter and I'll be blunt. I don't like the X6 when it first came out and my opinion still stands today even when I see one in the street. I would much rather look at the X5 with the M Sport Package. I believe the X5 gives you a bit more rear cargo space as well. Just my $0.02.

The X6 looks awful, IMO. One of those "try and start a trend" designs that will look super passe-fashion and dated fast, which is a stark contrast from the E's timeless bloodline and shape. Finally, I think they are two very different cars. IMO, if you want a BMW SUV, I'd also pick an X5 over an X6.

Enjoy the Top Gear X6 review. The conclusion was that it is garbage. I would not be caught dead in one. I'd much rather buy a BMW 550x with AWD or X5 V8 instead if I were to go with a BMW. It is a useless ugly vehicle with probably a horrible resale value.

Wow, they really tore the X6 apart. Great video and it sure would talk me out of buying one.

Tom, you're the only one that has driven the lease car correct? did you beat it? if not, why not haggle with mbfs and just buy the car. You're getting a great deal, because you mustve loaded it the way you wanted to, when you picked it up. All this talk about maintenance, did you not maintain it when you were driving it? of course, just buy it and be happy.
