Sorry for double post-new here just saw AMG has a seperate section from W211. So pls excuse double post.

Hey to all and thanks for looking at my post.
2004 E55 70k miles.
Mobil 1 oil, oem filter.
just got the car 3k miles ago.

Its making the random ticking sound from idle to about 2.400rpm of the scavenge oil pump chain touching the block. (Mostly when hot)

Apart from being a sound that is annoying, is that long term a problem for this health of the engine? Such as putting metal shavings into oil?

I have seen multiple posts with how the spring goes weak with age, however nothing definitive about if its bad for the engine…

Any chance you can post a video demonstrating the noise? I have a ticking noise coming from my engine bay too and wondering if it’s the same thing. I haven’t been able to pinpoint where mine is coming from.

I will try my best to get capture that sound on video. How many miles, oil, rpm is your situation?
I made sure with a mechanics stethoscope that the sound is coming from down there.

Ive got an ‘06 E55 wagon with about 138K on it. The ticking in mine is at idle, but I haven’t had someone run higher RPM with me on the outside to see if it goes away. I’m using LiquiMoly motor oil. It’s not audible from the cabin. I also tried to use a poor man’s stethoscope (long screwdriver with base of the handle in your ear hole) but don’t think I attempted to get down in toward the oil pump.
