I have 10 quarts of Mobil 1 15W/50 that I won’t otherwise use. Is this too heavy of an oil for summer use in my 94’ E420? The car has 111k miles and is currently running on Mobil 1 10W/30. No oil usage or leak issues. I am a little concerned about running that heavy of an oil in it but don’t want to throw it out either[:O]

Thanks,

Colorado

You've been using the wrong oil all along! 30 weight oil is NOT approved for MB engines.
15W-50 is great; especially for the summer months. Also OK to use during winter unless you live in the North Pole.

So I recently purchased a 91 300E. As I wasn't sure when the previous owner had changed the oil and my pressure seemed low I changed it this morning and went with a 15W-40. A friend of mine who works on engines all the time and use to run a shop for the Air Force recommended 20W-50 since I've got about 160K on it.

Any thoughts or previous experiences with the 3 ltr?

Thanks!

sergio is right. 15W 50 Mobil 1 is the ideal lubricant for your engine. M119's tend to run a bit on the warm side therefore the thicker stuff is just right. The dealership I worked for in the 90's used 20W 50 Kendall on all the vehicles unless you specified synthetic. Mobil 1 was factory fill.

Been using 15-40 in my E420 but I think the next change will be to the 15-50 oil! There is a lot heat from the V8 ![:0][:0]
