I have another question about the E36.

Did it have the same brake setup as an ordinary E320 or was it something different?

According to my database the brakes were:
294x25 front and 278x9 rear - that's the same as E320

On this site however ( E 36 Coupé; E 36 Cabrio; E 36 T Modell - Small Talk, Questions and Reports - AMG Owners Club e.V. )

it's said that 3.6 models got
320x30 front and 278x24 rear brakes.

Sounds quite improbable if one has seen the 320x30 S600 brakes, but...

I don't know

Please - E36 owners or E36 brochure owners - help!

All I can say for sure is that they are not the ordinary E320. I have replaced mine in the front and the part nr is; 129 421 17 12 and 129 421 18 12. Maybe the same as SL500 or SL600..?

^^

That's the number for standard E320 disks.

I am a little bit confused right now.

Nevertheless, I think that both E320 and E500 brakes will not fit my 300E 2.8 unless I change the lower control arm to the later type... And that makes me want to go for the whole 129 setup.

Thanks for all the input.

Yeah, I'd say that the LCA swap is essential to maintaining sufficient clearance between the rotor and balljoint...but, some folks have made this swap even though there was only something like 1mm gap. It was the only way I could swap in the R129 brakes, even though I also had 129 knuckles.

I have checked another E36 CE here and it has the same brakes as mine (see above). We both have the 957 code in the option list.
