hey batmanandbobbin - looks like i may be having the same issue are you with regards to the power latch tailgate. I was going to ask you offline how you did it, but since I'm sure there's like 5 of us that own an e320 w211 wagon thought this might make for a nice DIY. So, my issue is the same as yours when I close the tailgate I hear the whirring but the gate doesn't appear to close. When I slam the tailgate closed, no motor actuator at all. how did you get at the power latch to re-connect your spring?

thanks a ton - to be honest the issue sort of resolved itself with a little wd40. don't know how long will last , but for now i'm keeping my fingers crossed!
