I noticed an oil spot in the driveway for about a week before I decided to bend down and snap a cell phone pic. What is this sensor (what does it monitor)? Where can I get one and how much do they go far? This is what I saw.

Looks like the level sending unit. It also looks like they may have changed the design slightly, but the connector should be the same. Autohausaz has it for under $50, so you have to buy a wiper refill or something to get free shipping.

Merry Christmas, eh? :D

Just be sure to drain/evacuate the oil before you remove the sender, or...well, you know. :p

Is this the M104 (I6) or M112 (V6) engine?
That's the M104. In the 6 cylinder models, North American cars had the M104 in the W210 for 1996 and 1997, the M112 thereafter.

The oil level sensor is not as easy to change in the M112 or M113.

What's the main different between M112 and M104 ..?
As LarsL's prior post indicated, one is an I6 and the other is a V6. They share no parts whatsoever.

I found that the smaller oring on the electric plug is part of my oil change kit.
Would that tell us something? Replacing the bigger oring behind the flange is easy... once you have the pan empty...
