Hello ,

When I first start it , A big red battery with Visit workshop message shows up along with sbc ans abs messages show up. The previous owner replace the batteries and he said the dealer had replaced the sbc module and accumulator and he also replaced the brake switch. What do you think? It looks like they have been after this problem for a while.

05 e320 CDI with 196K miles. Highest recorded MPG 43.1. With some of these cars going beyond 400K I should have many more years of service.

a problem like this could be much better narrowed down if all the codes could be read by a scanner capable of interfacing with each individual control module individually. i would first check the ESP module, as well as the battery control module, and SBC module.

Might be the Battery Control Module (BCM). My car had that red dash message, too. Thought it might be the auxuiliary (secondary) battery. I troubleshot it with my SDS (STAR Diagnostic System) and found that the BCM wasn't showing up. Replaced the BCM with a secondhand working one, and the problem went away.

The SBC stuff, that's under warranty if you're in the United States. Just head to your dealership, and they should take care of it.

ABS, it could be a bad sensor.

It would really be a good idea to get that car of yours on an SDS and see what it says. If you don't have an SDS, it's worth every penny to go ahead and buy one. I did, and it's saved me tons of $$.

06 E320 CDI just hit 500,000 km today (310k ish miles). I have about 15k to go before I'll be the second owner to have it for over 100k miles! (First owner only kept it for 75k)

I am taking delivery today of a 2005 E320 CDI with 326,000 on the clock. Three owners, the first two who had the dealership do all the work, up to 316,000. Current (3rd) owner is a former Mercedes line mechanic who even owns an Star system, so I'm pretty comfortable with the gap in the VMI. Everything works on the car but the rear sunshade...

Ooooh...a white E320 CDI...nice!

You would do well to get a Star system, too, BTW.

Thanks, I’ve had one for probably 12-15 years, as well as an HHT.
