I'm about to replace the thermostat, and thought I'd look at WIS and the part itself before I started. Does anyone know how to remove the coolant hose from the thermostat? WIS only says to "remove coolant hose". On this car it's not like a traditional car where the hose is held on by an external clamp. The hose is literally inside the thermostat housing, not around it. I see a clip going around the housing, but it does not look like that would hold in the hose. Does anyone have experience with this?
If it's anything like the intercooler rubber hose, that clip holds the hose in place.
The end of the hose for the intercooler hose has a built in metal adapter, which plugs into the intake manifold, and secured on with a C clip.
I don't know specifically for the hose you're talking about.
Does anyone know why the thermostat for the OM642 has a heating element in it? I've never seen this before, and it makes the part $200... vs. ~30 for every other Mercedes I've had. Hopefully it's for a good reason.
