Not surprising given the new model but E Class values on the 211 have crashed. A search on any website and at your local dealer will get you a facelifted very low mileage 25 to 35K E350 with p2 and other options in the low to mid 30s and there are literally hundreds to choose from. I got excited about upgrading and refreshing mine...until I saw how far mine depreciated in value. My KBB value dropped $4K from 2 months ago. Anybody wanting an E class with the 211 chassis will get the deal of a lifetime if they don't have to sell one!

In So Cal at least, I haven't noticed this. Since purchasing a lease return '07 E350 a year ago I've gotten into the habit of checking prices, and for my year
and model the prices are almost the same as they were a year ago, from CPO's at the MB dealerships to Craig's List.
Even at the current price level I consider it a great deal, as long as you get the right car.

I'm waiting for the 2007-08 bluetec's with about 30K miles to drop to around 30,000. I figure it'll happen a few months after the 212 diesel is released, or around July. Ideally, I'd love to find a low mileage 09 bluetec for low 30s later on this year. Anyone think that is realistic?

The only reason I assume an 09 may be better is because of the slightly upgraded COMAND, but of course I may be wrong.

Good luck finding one for sale. Unlike gassers diesel owners buy the car rather than leasing them. For every 100 E350's coming off lease there is one Bluetec on the market (depending on area and region of the US). The other issue you face is that the dealers and auctions know this, thus the reason for significant premiums above typical market value.

Good luck!

I'm aware of that, and have been watching national dealer inventories for a few months now. While only about 5% of the post facelift models available are diesel, I have seen more in recent weeks. Regardless of what a great car it may be, there's always a percentage of owners who just want to be seen driving the latest and greatest, which helps buyers like me.

Like I said.. I'm playing the wait and see game.., hopefully I'll be able to walk away a happy man in the next 6 months.

2006 CDI = $27,860
2006 E350 = $23,432

Same options and 40,000 miles.
That makes '06 CDI's the deal of a lifetime!

Last year of the cast iron I-6 diesel.... I-6 smoothness and longevity, just enough purposeful diesel growl, 2 MPG better than Bluetec (and no ammonia!), sublime road feel & handling, better-than-Volvo safety. All for less than a new Accord.

Will probably pick up two more of them in 5-7 years when the kids need their first cars. Should be available for $15-18K then...

No adblue (urea) in bluetec until the 2011 W212 models for the E Class in the US...

Just paid a couple of grand more than that for my 2006 CDI, but it is loaded and only had 12k miles. Darn good deal I think and a year warranty to boot. It's also nice to know that resale will be a snap when the time comes for that.

The value holds up great when you let somebody else take the initial depreciation hit.

Hahaha!

 Rebadged and Recalled for spontaneous acceleration due to buggy firmware, unreliable braking and problematic steering... did I miss anything?

:) I'm sure glad I drive a Mercedes... I can deal with falling prices!
