My left turn indicator stays switched on!

I can indicate right but as soon as it cancels the left starts flashing again, could anyone offer any advise please.

I am quite confident in doing the repair myself and would like to avoid a diagnostics bill.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your reply, I updated my CP :)
I heard it could also be a 'Control Module' does that make any sense and if so where do I find the module??

The signal lever got several positions, up, neutral, down, locked high beam, momentary high beam, ...
You should hear the same sound (click!) from neutral to up (right turn) or down (left turn). If not, something is broken/slipped inside the steering column.

I'm pretty sure the clicks are consistant for left and right turn signals, its just at the neutral position the left indicator stays on!!!
Strange :)

Not sure if it's the same on the E Class as the SLK, but on the SLK there is a rather expensive board that actually controls the indicator operations. Being an electronic board, it can get screwed up. Maybe Prof Lou can give you the schematics for the E Class.

The W210 also uses an expensive board to control the turn signals.

On post-facelift models, it is the Signal Acquisition and Activation (Actuation) module (SAM N10/1). On top of it, there is the the K40/2 module on which there are fuses and relays.

Does the hazard flasher or the horn work?

The switch is certainly one possibility. However, problems like this can often be caused by intermittent or bad electric connections with various modules.

It is in the "module box", which is on the right ride of the car (near the firewall) for left hand drive cars.

For your car, it could be in the same spot or on the left hand side. You can take a picture of your engine bay so people can point to it.

Remember this is one of the possible causes so keep that in mind. Also, electrical trouble-shooting on these cars, without a scan, is not easy.

I have a similar problem, which seems to have happened after changing a headlight bulb. However I notice that while the bulb is in, I cant even horn...for some reason it just brightens the output whenever I press it?

Let me know how yours turns out...

I would think that is the usual solution. I think sometimes it can be a PITA removing that steering wheel.

Those stalks do a lot. On my R129, it seems I can no longer flash the headlights. It is a fairly common problem on the R129. Rather than spend probably $1,000 to replace I think I will live with it.
