Which tire do you like with your 129? I'm in the market for a nice tire that is quiet and handles well. It doesn't need to be all season, because Janet will only come out in the Summer.

I tried Goodyear Eagles which were simply awful tires. The tread ended up cupping and by 20,000 miles they were completely shot. I have had two sets of Michelin Pilots which have been great tires. They ride well, handle nicely and last a good long time.

Does anyone have first-hand experience with both the Michelin Pilot Sport and the Nitto Invo? From reviews I can find on the net, the Nittos look like they could be a worthy challenger, but they cost less.

I have Pirelli P-Zero Nero on the car now, and it wants to steer itself into every little wrinkle in the road. Its awful. It feels like the car needs front end work, but I'm sure it is just the tires.

The tires are a few years old but have lots of tread life. Perhaps age of the tire is a factor. A "tire guy" told me that tires will lose shape and consistency over time even if they don't get much wear.

I'm in a unique position to comment on your question. I bought my 96 SL from a reputable used import dealer several months ago. (I got the vehicle for less then the KBB wholesale value with only 38,000 miles.) As part of the deal, the dealer made arrangements to replace the worn out tires with some nearly new "take offs." I figured at the price in which I bought the vehicle, I'd go along with the "take offs" plan. At the worst, I'd simply have to replace the tires earlier then expected.

Due to staggered tire size with my AMG rims, we could only locate a mismatched brand combination. We ended up with nearly new Bridgestone Potenza's on the front and Michelin Pilot Sports on the back. Even though I had reservations about the brand match up, I have to tell you that the combination is working out great. Both the brands are equally smooth and seem to have similar handling characteristics. I've even pushed my SL hard on some really twisty roads while hanging with a new Vette and not noticed any stability issues.

The only difference that I notice is that the Michelin's are louder then the Bridgstones and transmit more road noise. As for longevity, its too soon for me to tell.

Innvo's are superb....and they are considerably quieter than the nt555's i had on them before...not to mention the tread pattern on them is interesting

I have bought mine from tirerack and have never had a problem as long as you know what you want. On the stock rims I have Kumho, soft ride, not bad, Chrome AMG 18's i have Sumitomo's HTZII, stay away, hate them, too hard of a ride, noisy and wear quickly. The 19's rims I have Fusions, and was very suprized at the ride and they are actually not too load. Good choice and are really wearing slowly.

I had Michelins that I hated (I've always hated Michelins in every form) and then I have the Pirelli PZero Rossos in my SL and loved them to bits. In fact I bought them again for my father's Jaguar XF. The grip they give you is mind blowing once they get to temp and you will be amazed of how wonderful they are :D.
And they are extremely different from the PZero Neros either.

Cheers.
