I have a 2003 C240 (W203) and the COMAND Diagnostic Screen shows an SAE B1780 Type 0 DTC.

Looking this up, shows it as a CAN communications fault with the Instrument Cluster.

Searched far and wide, but I can't find any information/documentation for this.

Can anyone help?

This is no help but you are not the only one- I have 1999 sl320 with CAN fault and instrument cluster- but nobody i know can shed light on it either. I will let you know if I learn anything.
I have no expertise but CAN is Controller Area Network.

I am a network engineer, and am learning how to work on my own car. Luckily, my dad did almost all of the work on every car he ever owned and my brother is a diesel mechanic.

Just to make a guess here, I think it is probably a loose wire/connector between the instrument cluster and the CAN controller.

The message appears to indicate that some kind of communications error (either data errors or electrical errors) is occuring. However, the cluster appears to be working correctly. So, I guess it means the CAN controller for the cluster is bad and needs replacing.

Good luck on doing this, I'll bet you'll have to tear apart the entire front dash to get to it.
