Drove from Monterey Bay to Malibu this weekend.

I had an awesome 800 mile round trip drive up the Central Valley on the 5 Frwy to spend the night in Northern California.

The following morning I drove from Monterey Bay to The Pebble Beach Resort where I captured some pictures along the "17 Mile Drive". I then drove the twisty's of Hwy 1 from Carmel to a lunch at Ragged Point in Big Sur, past The Hearst Castle, on to a sleepy little town known as Cayucos for a cup of coffee. As luck would have it they were having there Annual Car Show down the center of main street. Great cars!

I spent the night in Buellton next to Solvang and continued down the coast to Malibu Colony (sorry no pics of Pamela Anderson at her home) where I got back on the freeway to my home in Orange County, Southern California.

What a great California Top Down Drive in my Silver 129. Note: click on the 'include large map'.

As soon as I got my SL last Jan, I started thinking about driving down Hwy 1 - from Monterey - to San Simeon - top down - on one of the the world's most beautiful roads in the sun...

Next summer?

BTW if you haven't been to Hearst Castle it is a must see...

BTW your ride is beautiful -

So jealous that you have that road in your backyard, but at least you drive it and don't take it for granted. I was only in CA for a week but I miss being there everyday.

That's just it. It's been awhile since I last drove that stretch that has so many multi-trip memories associated with it.

I remember when one of those trips included my Datsun 280Z w/ Bosch fuel injection (great car for the new $7.5K price) along with my first auto camera (Canon A1) that found me pulling over every 5-10 minutes to take pictures and/or change the multi exp film rolls or lenses. Poor:crybaby2:wife.

Thanks but that one picture has a back drop of the Moss Landing fishing fleet with very few leisure vessels.

Monterey to Malibu...mmmm.......Somehow Biggleswade to Bridlington ain't going to be the same any more.......
After seeing Doc Martin the roads along the Cornish coast have to be beautiful - that little town reminds me of Mendocino along the No CA coast Steve...

(where it was "Cabot Cove, Maine" and where Murder She Wrote was filmed)

The Cornish fishing village (Portwenn) where Doc Martin is filmed is actually Port Isaac. Cornwall is lovely but can be a challenge due to the very narrow roads and hills ( I think Porlock hill is about 1 in 4 or 25% gradient). And of course it is a peninsular so once you get to Lands End you have no option other than to turn around. Sadly we don't get much chance of the 'open road' on our little island nowadays, the thought of an American road trip is very attractive.

Doc Martin has become my favorite weekly hour long PBS show. I can't wait for each new episode. Martin is such a ??? and I love how Louisa has this great way of putting him in his place. All the while I am routing for there relationship and the great supporting cast.

If there are any forum members who have not found this show on your cable network I strongly urge you to get on track. I hope you enjoy this comedy as much as I do. FWIW, I miss Pauline Lamb (Katherine Parkinson), his incompetent Receptionist/Phlebotomist,

Oh, the UK has some of the most beautiful country road drives throughout the English countryside. Monteray to Malibu is just one of ours. You have so many more. Like those of the Lake District.

Hi lynns, you are of course perfectly correct, you never appreciate your own back yard. Incidentally one of our friends is an actor and got to thump Martin Clunes in an early episode. He's a fun guy in reality, not at all like his character thankfully.

At the very right of the picture you can see Phil's Fish Market! I've had some great Cioppino and Clam Chowder there.

I was there just 5 weeks ago, had a great whale watching trip out of Moss Landing with Sanctuary Cruises. An amazing day with about 70 humpback whales out in the bay.

I wish I could drive the PCH in my SL. But on the other hand I'm only about 90 mnutes from the Nürburgring!
