My car does not unlock the doors from the driver door like it should as it does on the passenger side. It only locks the driver door and nothing else. What part has most likely failed here? Also, is the W124 supposed to be able to lock all the doors from the inside when the car is running? I am new to Mercedes Benz and the W124 and I am not sure.

well, if the passenger side works all the locks, then the central locking system is probably working fine, so its likely the switch in the drivers door (or its wiring) that tells the central locking to lock/unlock....

and, no, I'm pretty sure these cars don't autolock when you drive. all my 80s/90s european cars owners manual had statements like "Be sure to leave the doors unlocked when you drive so emergency workers can more readily rescue you in an accident", and my wife's toyota autolocks and says 'be sure to lock doors for safety'. hmmm, different philosophies, for sure.
