just received a drive shaft from EBAY from a donor 96 500SEL which is advertised as a fit for my 96 S320 LWB. My shop tells me it is 1 to 2" off??

Should these two interchange ??

Any help is appreciated

Flex Discs may also be different thickness.

That might account for the difference.

It looks like the flex discs for the V8's 140's are different than for the 6-cyl.

Will have to check EPC for more definitive answer.

Welcome to Benzworld

The flex disks are all the same thickness with six holes, and 96(S500) V8/96 I6(inline-six) are the same-Three point yokes for both years. Drive shaft on a 96V8(S500) and 96I6 different birds??

Note, the 500SEL have a four-point yoke with eight hole flex disks, and drive shaft is about 10" shorter, so you have the S500 not a 500SEL.

You can only use a 95 S320 or 96 S320 as those were the only two years of the 722.5(and maybe some late 94 S320's too) transmission on the W140 because 97-99 S320's have the 722.6 transmission which is a few inches shorter than 722.5....
