The cluster on my s430 died a couple days ago, only the srs red light comes on. I bought a new cluster from ebay and the same thing is happening. The seller told me that i have to reprogram the new cluster and it will work. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Welcome to the forum.

Please see the W220 S-Class Encyclopedia sticky toward the top of the W220 forum main page. It has a section dealing with instrument cluster issues. And yes, a dealer would have to program the replacement cluster to your car.

Replacement clusters

And yes, a dealer would have to program the replacement cluster to your car.
Is that because you need the mercedes computer diagnostic system to do it?

Also, do later version clusters fail and if not can they be retro fitted?

There are companies that will repair your existing cluster so you don't need the expense or reprogramming a different one

Get your original one repaired and sell the replacement you bought
