On my 280E from 1982, the underside of each door has a black rubber strip which I suppose is meant to provide sealing against water and noise. On my car, these strips are loose and not sealing well. Does anyone know how these strips are attached to the underside of the door? I only found one attachment point at the rear of each door. Is it clamped in other places, or are there more (hidden) screwed attachment points?

Any help is appreciated!

Hi! This is a little special work:

Remove the cover in the rear corner of the door and unscrew the small nut inside.(That´s probably what you found) The rest of the fastening points except the last one in the front corner of the door are plastic clips. To release the clips you bend out the lower part of the seal strip, beginning at the rear and procide to the front. And this is important: When the clips are loose, open the door fully, push the entire strip forwards on the door as far as it goes (about 1/2"). Then pull the rear end of the strip out from the car and you will see the metal hook coming out of the rectangular hole in the front corner of the door. When it´s out you just pull the strip backwards, still holding the rear end of the strip out from the door and the other end of the hook comes out. I´ve learned this by destroying one strip, but if you do like this you don´t have to.

If you have to remove the plastic clips in the door just punch in the small pins in center of the clips in to the door with a suitable tool and pull out the clips. Place new clips in the holes and punch the center pins in and the clips will expand.

Good luck! / Anders
