Not that I'm scrutinizing every square inch of this beautiful new car...but I noticed today in the sunlight that the door handles on my black (040) car are actually obsidian black metallic, rather than the plain black. Does this seem accidental, or a planned way to save during production....or maybe I'm seeing things.

This is intentional since a specific production date. I was able to find a recent post about the same here but there was an even more extensive discussion very recently, just could not find that thread.

it has been this way since 2001. one of the reason is to save cost another is 197 doesn't show scratch as easy on door handle.

Thanks for the link on this question. I guess I'm late to the party...but appears that all black cars have the obsidian handles since mine is a newer build.
