When I first got the car I noticed the red warning indicator light flashing all the time. I noticed my cylinders where leaking so I had Tophydraulics rebuild them and my mechanic and I reinstalled them. The cylinders are all perfect now (Thanks Klaus) but the red light is flashing. The problem is, I'm not sure if it's the front or rear not locking.

Is it just me, or does the rear seem not fully closed?

red light flashing for front locks or rear locks?

luiml73,

Maybe your rear locks only need to be adjusted down a little for a tighter fit of the hard top.

The red light flashing with the top up is likely an indicator that either a front lock or a rear lock are not giving the "closed" signal to the controller. In most cases, one of the front locks is the culprit. I can guide you through the adjustment once we know which lock it is.

To test the front locks, apply the soft top tool or a 6-mm Allen wrench to one front lock and turn that lock to the fully closed position (the top will pull down a little against the weatherstripping). Hold the tool in the fully locked position and check whether the red flashing light still comes on. Do the same for the other side.

Looking forward to your update,

Klaus

I'll check the fronts and let you know what I find.

I just realized why I might be having a problem in the rear. The hardtop on my car was bought from a junkyard from a different car, and I didn't notice the rear locking pins where missing till I got home. I went back to the junkyard and found the pics and installed them. I guess I just I need to adjust them properly.

Funny Story: I was on date with my Russian friend and she asked "What is that beeping noise" and I said "It's the passenger weight limit exceeded warning" LOL!!

She had a good sense of humor about it cause she knows she's thin:)

example of hard top mounted; adjusting the latches

Luiml73,

Did you possibly install the rigid prongs from a soft top instead of the flexible ones from a hard top?

Looks too high in the rear, and a little twisted. The important part is, is it weather-tight?

You can adjust the height in the rear by sliding the rear locks up or down. When adjusting the rear locks, keep in mind that the hard top usually has a tighter fit to it than the soft top. That means, if your hard top barely seals out the weather, then the soft top will likely be loose.

The front should show about 7mm (a hair over 1/4") of gasket material between the metal trim on the windshield header and the metal of the hard top. When the weatherstripping ages, you might need to narrow that 7-mm gap a tiny bit. See http://www.benzworld.org/forums/r129-sl-class/1602807-soft-top-front-lock-adjustment.html for more details...

I don't have the hard top on my car yet, so I quickly took a picture of one of our employees' hard top for reference, see attached below.

I adjusted the front a bit to the left. The front seems to be locking fine. I tried locking the front each side manually but the light is still flashing. I did notice the the passenger rear does not have that huge gap like the drivers side. I will try and adjust/lower the passenger rear tomorrow to see if it solves the problem.
