Hello all,

My dome light housing is cracking, and it makes the mirror wobble. I considered buying a new one but it's $500 on ebay (and not the color I need)

Thinking about removing it and gluing it. Form what I've read i have to first remove the mirror by pulling down hard. That sounds like I could break something... Is there a way to pry it loose?

Once I remove the mirror, i have to unscrew the housing. Now, does this part come off easily after unscrewing? Or do I have to pull. This is the part that is cracked and I dont want to cause more damage...

Once the whole dome light is off. In order to glue it from the inside (dont want the glue to be visible) i need to remove all the internal parts... Is that easy or impossible? And What kind of glue?
Thanks

Yep, pull the mirror down hard no prying nessessary...There are a couple of hidden screws under the dome lights...I have seen the complete units sold on ebay for a couple hundred...The guy asking for 5 bills is on drugs and or alcohol...Duro contact cement is great if you can do it from the inside. Very strong but pliable...Super glue is to brittle to make a lasting repair...Al

I purchased a dome light a few weeks ago for $85 from the UK. Found the guy on ebay. See if he has another. His name and e-mail is Carl Burgess <[email protected]>.

I'm not the most mechanical. Took me a while to figure out. My mirror was cracked and when I pulled, pieces showered down. Finally, I put a flat head screwdriver and applied pressure to one side and the mirror came right off. Glued the mirror back together (at least most of the pieces).

Has anyone tried to recover the mirror in leather? $100k car and cheap plastic parts. MB could have done better.

I have an Black assembly if you need it from my 02 SL500SA. Not sure if it is compatible, but if it is you can have it for shipping. Check & get back to me. One of the switches is gone, but you can have the rest to restore yours and use your switch.

That would be great! Wouldn't have to look into the glued rearview mirror while driving. Thanks!
