ADJUSTING THE HEIGHT OF HEADRESTRAINT.

This has been nagging me since I first saw it in the owners manual, because it doesn't work in my car.
1986 560SL. My owners manual is the right one, seat angle knob pulls out slightly but it still only adjusts the
seat-back angle. Once I pulled hard enough to pull the handle off it's post, but it snapped back on again.
Passenger seat knob doesn't pull out at all. I have searched the forum and google, to any reference
to this feature but have not been able to find anything, nada. My owners manual says 1986 on the back.
Could it have been a running change so some later cars have it?

That's not how shown in the manual for my '88 or how it works on mine. Just a pull/push to put height and angle in place and holds by some sort of friction fitting. Headrests are removed by a button that is located in the center of the back. The release switch is underneath the vinyl cover so you have to feel for it.

This is for a US vehicle. Wondering if that is more of a Europe feature?

Mine works the same as yours.

I doubt his is European. Canada received the North American version like the US. All of mine including the Euros work the same.

I had no idea that the adjustment wheel pulled out.
Now I gotta go try.

I looked in my 560SL owners manual and it had the same instructions. I was not able to pull the knob out. I did not pry. I am unwilling to damage the surrounding plastic. Headrest pulls up same as my other models.

Just checked myself, but offcourse that's a 1976 model; no height adjustment, only tilt forward ...
Is this only on the later models then ?

I am 6 ft 1 and a bit, some additional height could be welcome.

Ok, right, read your post, jumped out into the garden and to the cave to test this ...

Found the knobs (drivers' side)... THAT's what they are for ! thx.

Headrests: when I bought her, I checked if the would move, they didn't (easily ...)
Tried again just now: with ample force, passenger side comes up a couple of cm. (7-8 ?). Driver's side: 1-2 cm only. I'm breaking a sweat here from pulling the headrest. I'm afraid I'm pulling it off (standing overhead the seats, feet left and right, pulling with both hands ... )

But ok, got it; it is supposed to move ...
