I have been contemplating buying another roadster for quite some time now however I'm a bit indecisive.

R129 or R230? I was leaning towards an R230 but I am hesitant due to the problems associated with the ABC system. The vehicle will be used sparingly & it will spend the majority of its time in storage. Will this pose a problem for the ABC system? What are the problems with minimal use & long term storage?

I drive my sl55 at least every three days, wipe it off with a damp towel daily, look for leaks, and raise and lower the top unless it's raining. My ABC fluid is green and at the correct level. All is well for now. Letting any car sit unattended for long periods of time is just asking for problems IMHO.

Obviously, all cars like to be driven, and do better mechanically speaking when driven frequently. I would recommend the R230 over R129. ABC really works, and the power, torque, one-touch convertible is advantageous. My 13 year old SL550 has 31k on the clock, I'm 3rd owner, average only 2500 per year with lots of sitting (6 months of winter, too). Always dealer maintained on "annual" not mileage schedule. I just recently flushed my ABC system. No issues whatsoever. I don't think ABC is affected by sitting. Put a battery maintainer on the trunk (consumer) battery and you will be fine between drives.

I currently own four 129s and a pair of 230s. The suspension on the 129 is very firm compared to a 113, 107, and 230. For me the ride quality of a 129 is annoying, as every little imperfection in the road is felt. The 230 is far better in this regard, and it is made possible by ABC. I've been spoiled by years of driving a 230 that I literally can no longer tolerate driving a 129.
