I hardwired my V1 the other day and decided I'd kill two birds and just omit the on-board computer since it was causing a parasitic draw and I never used it anymore. Now I'm having issues with the FM radio only (low volume locked and high pitch sound) and it seems related to that microphone located in that assembly from what I saw on MBWorld..

What I don't get is why when I disconnected it in the past, I never had this issue. I pulled the main plug from the OBC and never had volume issues. This time I pulled the plug but used a wire from that connector for my 12 volt source. Wondering if I just used the wrong wire.

Thanks all

What are you referring to by V1 I am sure other members as well as my self are like what is that?

By on board computer I take it you are referring to the trip computer?

I can't imagine that it had so much draw that it was causing issues. The Mic in the trip computer is the Glass break Mic. It has nothing to do with radio volume. But it and the incline sensor send info into the AAM and are considered part of the alarm system.

There should be 2 wires one is red power unswitched, other pink power switched.

Thanks all. Looks like I hardwired into the blue wire for the compass. And thank you for the clarification on that mic, I thought it was for the radio volume.

Last night I pulled the connector for the radar detector off and still the same issue. About 20 mins later as I'm driving the radio comes on full blast out of nowhere and appears to be working as normal. Reattach splice and go to bed. This morning it's the same issue with very low volume and light feedback

Maybe the headunit is just toast and it's coincidental that it messed up when I did the splice. The volume button never worked right. I do like the nostalgic look of the thing. Might give these guys a ring today

Just a clarification...By mentioning that his issue started with hooking up a V1.....he is referring to a radar detector made by the Valentine Corporation.

I'm really surprised there are any radar detector manufacturers still in business. Valentine and Escort were the industry leaders and I'm certain they have fallen on hard times with all the latest technology in mapping and warnings.

Yes! When I got my V1 the Passport 9500ix was coming out and had way more tech but still no arrows. I think that patent's expired. Uniden seems to be the new king at the moment. Ive had to turn X and K band off due to so much highway noise from blindspot monitors which I think newer RD's can learn or you can omit just those frequencies...I think.

Ed.......I'm 66 now so my speeding days are far behind me. In 1986 I took european delivery of a new Porsche 944 Turbo and enjoyed it for many years, but I was racking up a lot of points due to speeding. Escort radar detector paid for itself many times over.
These days, in my two ML's, I just kick back on cruise control at about 65 and cops don't seem to mess with you. Bigger fish to fry !!
On longer trips and when I feel the need for more speed, I just wait for some faster car to overtake me and I will just hang out about a 1/4 mile behind and try keep him in sight. If I lose him, there is always another one to lock in on !!

Haven't had a speeding ticket in years and process seems to work pretty good. Plus, you see some beautiful scenery along the way !! :)

Springer I am a bit younger then you not by much though. You have to deal with those Georgia troopers. the ones hiding behind every billboard. You need to go West young man, in Idaho we have one of the highest limits in the US, 80.

I tend to push it to 85, yet people pass me at 95+! It is a great feeling when we see them pulled over 15miles later. But this also reassures us that there will not be another State trooper for the rest of the trip, Except for Holiday weekends you will only see one Utah to Oregon. For years Oregon kept it at 65 just in the last year or 2 they also raised it. Talked myself out of that ticket!

Springer, I use the same method.. I'm a good 1/4 mile back from all the guys that want to ride on each other's bumpers.. What's great is seeing everybody slamming on their brakes when they go flying passed a cop.. Me, I just go coasting by as my speed reduces.. I remember one time I was in the 80s on I-95 , the guy in front of me hit the brakes, The cops lights come on, (I know for sure it was me that he had picked up).. I didn't brake.. and the guy in front going slower got pulled..

Funny not only do you get the tools, they are MB. That alone makes them worth $350!
