Since the question is whether an OE radio adds to the car's value, I'll bet that for the majority of SLs in the "daily driver" category, the answer is 'not really'. For low-mileage, esoteric show-cars, then sure.

I had a friend that lost a perfect 300 due to an aftermarket radio shorting out and sett the car afire---those damned bullet connectors cause shorts if not soldered. Use the original connectors .
Sounds like there's more to the story. What happened to the fuse?

Which begs the question for gaining most monetary value for your car. Sell the original radio and car separately ! Especially if the radio sells for as much as seen on eBay etc.
That's actually a pretty clever suggestion, considering how a modern stereo vs. the OE radio may not really affect what you can sell the car for.
