After several weeks of on and off labor (in between making a living, honey-dos, household and yard work), I've completed construction of my homemade wind deflector. On a scale of 1 to 10 difficulty, I'd call it an 8, but it turned out rather well. I was lucky to find a navy blue vinyl that matched the interior of my car in which to wrap the conduit pipe. The only flaw was a needless space between the two screens where I attached a vinyl strip to block what little wind that came through. Took the car for a drive at speeds of 70 to 80 mph, and it worked perfectly, so I'm quite happy with it. I wouldn't recommend making one, though, not after hearing about several other members getting such good deals on Ebay. I estimate the job took 25 hours overall. Materials ( heavy-duty screen, conduit pipe and vinyl, glue) cost $70.00. But it was a challenge to see if I could make one that was good enough to use in the car and not besmirch MB quality. Here's a few shots of it installed.

That's a gorgeous job! Very well done.

What's behind it, over the parcel shelf? And how's it held in place?

It looks factory. Well done Gordon.
BTW, what happened to your Sunvisors?

Nice looking 560SL. Color of your SL looks like silver or light blue in photo.

Thanks!

Hey guys, thanks for all the kind words. Even my wife likes it! This will be my first and last build of a windscreen deflector. If I hadn't built this, I would have taken advantage of the great deals other members found on Ebay.

Oh, BTW, Carl – my 560SL is white. It was overcast when I took pictures so I guess everything has a blue tint. Yes, I would be a very happy owner if it was in light blue. I've seen a couple and they're a knockout.

Now... there must be another project around here somewhere... waiting to be stumbled upon.

The shot below is me and my lovely (long suffering from my DIY affliction) wife, Melissa.

Carl, I removed the sunvisors. They kept bothering me -- too close to my face. I carefully removed them and they're stored in a safe place. I may reinstall them at some later date.

Great job! I sure feel your pain regarding the expense and time a guy spends trying to recreate a a wheel ! I though about trying the same thing myself, but after spending the time and money building a car lift that I could have bought commercially for the same cash, I decided that i am done recreating the wheel for awhile ! :grin

The good life

We're all very fortunate. Great country. Great cars. Now, great weather for going topless (for the South anyway. For the folks in the North, hold on, spring's comin'.). Life is good.

Hey, reno4u2. For some reason, we here in the South are always looking North. Didn't mean to leave you guys in the Southwest and Northwest out of the picture! And the Midwest as well. BTW, I was born in AZ and we lived in Vegas for years before pulling up stakes and moving east. Have some relatives over in Henderson, Boulder City and up 95 in Indian Springs. Talk about nice driving, you've got beautiful territory to cover with the top down.

I live off 95 in the NW part of Vegas...10 minutes I'm out of the city and into the mountains. Boulder City is a cool little town...probably one of the few places in Nevada where gambling is not allowed.

I'm not sure if I've seen a cooler post on here, this is simply awesome! I'm not an old pro on here yet so I can't see if you posted a how-to, but I'd sure love it if I could get an instruction plan! Like I said I'm not good on here yet to poke around to see if you posted one! Thanks - gorgeous job!

Often wondered why those wind deflectors came to be called windscreens in Benz world?

Where I grew up, a windscreen was glass and you drove looking through it ;)

Here is an "official explanation of difference between windscreen and windshield:

This place calls them wind deflectors. They have them for our 107s:

:unsure::whistle:🥺😁
