All you need are some ramps or jack stands, 2 quarts of 80W-90 gear oil, drain pan, ½ inch drive ratchet with a 14MM hex socket, a old clean ½ or one gallon jug, and a hand pump. I made step by step pics so the next time someone comes along(like me) and needs some good directions they will have some. Let me know what you think about it.

All the needed tools and products:

Put it up on ramps or stands:

Remove the fill plug first and then the drain plug:

Drain the old fluid(Smell Warning):

Tighten the Drain plug:

Use your hand pump and refill the diff until it pours out of the hole:

Once full snug down the fill plug and enjoy:

Nice job 79Mercy.

I wish everyone took photos while doing their repairs and took the time to post the info they learned. It would be awesome to be able to search a "complete" archive of photo DIY threads. I have seen some great pictorials that helped explain things much better than any manual. Anyway, I know it takes extra effort to have the camera around and remember to take pics when you need to (and keep your hands clean enough to use the camera).

Keep up the good work!

Nice one Mercy  !

Must say, your car's paintwork looks great for a car close on 30 years. Still its original coat?

How long did the job take you?

The FSM calls for specifics on how much fluid to add. Up to the fill hole is to much.

Dieselbenz.info, Yeah, if you want to you it thats fine with me. I'm about to do a tranny service(fluid+filter), I'll make a DIY guide for that also.

Frans-c, No, I had it painted a year ago, It looks original. The man stripped the whole car of everything(all moulding and trim, lights). It took me about 15-30 min. once the plug was loose.

Glad ya'll enjoyed it.

I seem to recall that it gave specifics, yet also said that the level is correct when it reaches the bottom of the fill hole when the car is firmly on level ground, no?

to loss, yes thats correct but there isn't much room under it when it is on the ground level. Alittle extra will not hurt.

Very nice pictorial. Thanks for the extra effort. That level will be fine......;)
BTW, love that car. Very nice color combo inside and out.

I'd feel bad about cross-pollinating forums, but Mercy 79 has already started the tradition.

Anyway, yours is only the second paint code 504 car I've seen on this site. Congrats on an unusual color. I called mine "unfortunate orange" until I'd had it awhile. Then it grew on me, and when I had the car repainted I decided it wasn't just passable, it was exceptional.
