Here are some easy steps to remove your mirror housing. To add chrome, change the LED signal, and moddify your light pipe if you want...This seems like and easy job and it is...
Jake

1. grind a small # 1 phillips screw driver to develop a small flat at the nose

2. cut a small section of .25 - .375 tube into a two (2") inch section

3. bend mirror housing back toward the rear of the car, insert the small section of tube onto the nipples / tabs located in the mirror frame and mirror hinge

4. insert a long flat blade screw driver from the front end of teh vehicle into the mirror housing. locate a molded in key way to a small .75 inch vertical metal tab. move that tab outboard from the vehicle and gently begin to slide mirror housing back. to not bend the spring clip - that is the retainer for the mirror housing unit.

5. remove the old, stock, etc. LED case with the ground phillips screw driver - or do what ever it is you have to do...

6. make sure the clip will retain the housing, it should be self loading and ready.

7. reinstall!

EDIT

and some pictures...

4. insert a long flat blade screw driver from the front end of teh vehicle into the mirror housing. locate a molded in key way to a small .75 inch vertical metal tab. move that tab INBOARD TOWARDS THE vehicle and gently begin to slide mirror housing back. to not bend the spring clip - that is the retainer for the mirror housing unit.

5. remove the old, stock, etc. LED case with the ground phillips screw driver (OR USE A POZIDRIV BIT IF YOU HAVE ONE) - or do what ever it is you have to do...

Where would you recommend to get the LED? dealership parts dept is selling it at $47 which I think is very expensive.

Also, the service advisor at the dealership informs me that the car wont pass inspection because the turn signal on side mirror is not functioning. Isnt it auxilliary and not required by law?

Thanks.

Well - it is the side marker for the car - the front and rear lamp both face in their respective planes - the front does not incorporate a side indication...it is full forward...well on my bi-xenon’s anyway...maybe a halogen with its wider upper section can be seen from the side easier...

Anyway - they pop up on eBay every now and again - and there are orient knocks offs on there with the w211 look...

I purchased a second set from the dealer when I smoked mine...I could not find OEM ones anywhere else...

I don't think it is the side marker because the side markers should come on as you turn on the running lights. The LEDs do not turn on unless you activate the turn signals or hazard lights.

Is your instruction applicable to 2002 MB C240?

4. "move that tab outboard from the vehicle and ..."

I'm not sure what you mean by 'outboard'
could you please elaborate?

Thanks so much.

Should work on your year - give it a shot anyway - it is REAL easy...

You'll want to follow the EDIT - and push the tab clip INBOARD toward the door - as in the picture...

Good luck - let us know how it works out!

On March 11, 2004 I purchased the E-Class lamps for my '01 C320 from Caliber Motors in Anaheim Hills (800-252-6877) for $20.50 each. Retail was $25.00 No freight charge.

The part numbers are: 203-820-14-21 & 203-820-13-21

The plugs did not match so I cut them off and spliced the wires.

thanks for the instructions. As a newbie, I have some trouble following what you mean by the nose in step #1 and what the .25-.375 tube is referring to in step #2. I see that step #1 is shown in one of the jpgs but I can't seem to identify what part that is. Thanks.

The end of a small phillips screw driver can be ground down (just a smidge) to engage into the posidrive bit...

The little section of tube is to act as a third hand - that holds open the mirror housing while you unscrew the other parts and bits...

ah, so the tube is something that you buy separately and isn't a part of the mirror assembly itself. Gotcha. And with this method, there's no need to remove the three screws nor disengage the spring. No fuss, no muss. Please correct me if any of this is wrong. Thanks!

If you mean aftermarket mirrors LEDs, they might just be poorly made and not provide enough load. You could add load resistors, or switch back to the stock ones. If you want an updated look the 2005+ units are supposed to be a direct swap.

Step 0 - Push the mirror backwards into the mirror housing on the inside (cloest to the car) so the housing can slip off past the mirror.

If you don't do this although the clip in step 4 is properly pressed, the housing will not come off.

This video shows you the best, it worked perfect for me, as long as you have enough grip on the mirror you just need to fold it back use a tiny flat head screw driver and flip the clip and slowly release the mirror back and pull the cover out. No need to grind down screw drivers or use a tube to hold it in place. This is the same way they did it at the 'stealer' when mine went out.
