Hallo all.

I am trying to Identify a 240d engine on my car.
Is there a way to tell if it is the weaker pre 1978 one or the stronger post 1978 one?

From the Web it seems they are visually identical.

Any numbers on the block?

It may be the 65 hp engine...

The 65-hp OM616.912 engine was used in the 240 D until February of 1979. If this is the original engine I suspect it’s the 65-hp engine rather than the 72-hp engine used after February of that year.
