Hi,

I have a problem with my s500L w220 RHD year 2000. The problem started with airmatic when I was driving in germany on autobahn and temperature has dropped below -3C degrees. I received a message on dashboard CAR TOO LOW PLEASE STOP. Message disappeared as soon as I raised the car with the button to lift the car up. Now after a few weeks I am back in UK and receiving Display defective ESP visit workshop ABS light up and sometimes I get a CHECK ENGINE message when drive around for some time.

I have disconnected ESP PSL BAS module, cleaned the connectors, put it back in and still the same.

I cleaned OBD errors and re-run the report;

Check for water intrusion under the carpet, this reads like wet/corroded wiring.

So on my w220 I do not have any electrical components under passenger compartments. I only have it in fuse boxes in engine bay on both sides. I noticed that my parking sensors do not work (parktronic) so I think I should check fuse f80. I will update the topic as soon as I find out what is going on with the fuses.

"So on my w220 I do not have any electrical components under passenger compartments. "

I have never seen, nor heard of, a W220 that didn't have electrical components under the carpet.

Moisture under the carpet is a silent killer for the W220. There is a design flaw in the HVAC plenum under the bonnet/hood. Rain and wash water enters the large grille on the right rear of the engine compartment. This water is supposed to drain thru a small valve at the bottom of the funnel, but normal debris will clog the drain. When the water level gets high enough in the plenum, it will overflow through the firewall and run down into the stamped floor channels under the carpet. There will be NO visible trace of this water whatsoever! Under the right front passenger's feet, and under the carpet, there is an aluminum panel. Under that panel, there are electrical wires and fuses. The moisture never goes away - it just continually corrodes the wiring connections and fuses.

Eventually, the moisture travels to the end of the channels and enters the rear SAM (Signal Acquisition Module), which contains a complex array of fuses, control modules and connections. The moisture is trapped in the SAM, and never goes away, but just continually corrodes everything in the box, causing major electrical and electronic problems.

Yes, it can all happen to your car - and it sounds as if it has. There are many posts and threads on the problem.

Good Luck!

It is not unusual for the molded rubber tube on the inlet/outlet of the Airmatic to fail, which can allow water to enter the Airmatic system, eventually saturating the dessicant in the compressor, and allowing moisture to enter the valve block. When the temperature goes below freezing, the moisture freezes on the solenoid valves that controls air flow into and out of the Airmatic system, This can cause the car to get too low, or in some cases, too high.

When you have electrical problems, you will often need to perform numerous resets of some of the control modules. One reset is done by turning the steering wheel full right, then full left (and perhaps full right again) then to center. shut the engine off, remove the key, then restart. Other resets are done by moving a control switch to full travel and holding it there for a few seconds, then repeat in the other direction.

There is a lot of information in the W220 Encyclopedia at the top of the Home Page in the light blue area - "START HERE". There is more in the W220 WIKI.

Hi,

I have managed to resolve the issue by replacing rear left (RHD) wheel speed sensor! Everything works fine now.
to guys out there, I checked ESP -> wheel RPM then drove around and noticed that one of sensors is 0km/s. Replaced and now car is perfectly fine.

I also replaced F34 fuse as it was blown when I was playing with the ESP PML BAS ECU…
