has anyone disassembled US headlight doors without breaking the clear plastic? the two halves seem to be glued or solvent bonded together. i saw a diagram of a british one with clips on the sides, by comparison. of course, the goal i am considering is to paint the plastic fins a slightly darker grey.

The British ones you saw are euro lights. They have a solid glass pane that covers both lenses and the front of the headlight surround. Completely different from the US headlight doors.

I seem to remember there was a thread where someone tried to pull them apart, but don't recall the method or the outcome... I don't think new ones are very expensive though.
