I just had the engine and transmission mounts on my 2002 SL 500 go for the second time, and I’m fed up.
In conjunction with having the shop replace the engine and transmission mounts with lemforder ones (expensive but worth it), I’m also having them replace the driveshaft center support, all the bearings, and the flex discs at either end. My question is, how many differential mounts are there?
Pictures I’ve seen of the naked transmission have two mounting points, but when it’s all put together, it seems like there’s four?
Are the other two the rear subframe mounting points? I’m very confused, and don’t want to buy more of something that I don’t have to.

Any and all help is appreciated!

Hey Robert, engine mount life will vary with several factors. I don't know what "go for the second time" means, but if you have less than 30K on the last pair of Lemforders, I'd be surprised.

Sounds like your car is serviced at a shop. Keeping these cars on the road in good order gets expensive when a shop performs most of the work. I'd caution that replacing parts because they're old is going to burn you out.

My 2002 with 100K (west coast miles) doesn't need rear links or subframe mounts. No squeaks, shudders or drifting here.

Is there a specific symptom you're trying to address?

My car just got to 93,000 miles.
I had the original ones replaced a few months back, but they were Febi’s, I believe.
I can tell something’s amiss, because the engine goes up a good five inches if I put my foot a bit on the gas while it’s in drive.
And the engine physically moves a good deal when shifting from Park to any other gear.

Ya, I've heard mixed reports about Febi products. I've got Lemforder mounts with 30K and they're still good.

I'd be very surprised if your differential mounts are done. Do you feel any movement when accelerating?
I do, but I’ll have to see after I have the engine/trans mounts and the driveshaft stuff done. Hopefully it covers all my bases, but I’ll have to see. By the way, thank you so much for responding, and for seeing this at all. I always worry that no one will ever respond to these forums, but this website has luckily been very kind to me.

Where are you guys finding Lemforder engine mounts for the R129? I am going to be doing my mounts here pretty soon and I have having a hell of a time finding anything that's quality other than OEM.

Good luck on your suspension issues OP. I will be there this winter.

Lemforder can only be found for m113 r129s only on pelican. In your m119 case go with rein wherever you can find them

Hello,
Do you have to drop the subframe to replace the differential mount bushings, or it can be done just by dropping the differential on a 91 500SL? Thanks. Ed

Once you have removed the differential you should have enough space in-situ to press the old bushings out through towards the diff side of the rear subframe. When fitting new bushes, you could press them into the subframe in the same direction you removed them, but check first that you have enough space (‘X’ dimension) between the floor body and subframe for your boss and the new bush. Here’s what I talking about.
