It was explained very well by an economics analyst on one of those financial news shows, I forget which one: the world economy is booming – oil is in very high demand and we’re paying the price accordingly. The fact that diesel is cheaper to refine than gasoline does not come into play because crude is so expensive.

there was a big demand heating oil this winter and
maybe that oil is $57 per bbl has something to do with it?
time to burn anything that will burn. see the other threads this regard.

who knows maybe someday we'll be buying our fuel at the grocery store[:0]gallons of canola for our diesels.

I drove 300 miles on a almost full tank of diesel. I still have a quarter of a tank. And thats semi hard driving. Not too bad. To fill it up is around $35 for me.

Yea, don't run it out of fuel. I have done that 3 times, and won't be doing it anymore!! One time it took me like 15 minutes to restart the car, since there was all that air in the lines.

We are up to $3.50 a gallon here in Ontario, although we buy it by the litre, so psychologically it is more pleasing

!!Only 89.9 cents a litre. :)

Gas prices aren't going to come down anytime soon anyways. By Summer it should be up and past $3.00 a gallon maybe more, and in a year it could be as high as $5.00

It’s all relative, I know – in US everyone thinks the diesels are "special". And that’s fine but the fact is that the gasoline engines are how the car was originally designed to look by the MB designers. Also, the gasser are faster in that they produce a higher power output. The gas engine on my 200 are outstanding – they work great and I can cruise great. So "silly" is definitely out of the question.[:)]

Oh, i almost forgot to post this pic[:D].
The new fuel gauge...

Actually the 123s were originally designed as both gas and diesel powered cars. In fact they carried over the same OM 616 and 617 engines from the w114/115 chassis they replaced in 1976, a.k.a. the /8s. The 200 D (w123.120) was among the very first cars produced along side the gas cars in 1976.

Besides, iNeon is mooning SUV drivers, not 123 gas drivers. [:)]

tiger - no offense but what ineon is saying is just a
''diesel'' thing. you gotta be there i guess...
i am sure that the gas engine in your car is all mercedes so this is also all good.

i just love when a big rig driver especially down south at truck stops here in the usa asks me about my car - and i say sure i can go over 400 miles on a tank .. and sure it's got a turbo and sure it's got over 200k on the clock, and sure it's 21 years old...
it's just a ''diesel'' thing[8D]
