1998 ML320 last part of the vin is A015204
the gates website says to use 6PK2390 up to chassis A429265
when I ordered from amazon it indicated gates K060942 will fit

gates site

Amazon site

I did a search and saw where one was to short and you could get 1 for ac and one without ac

do I need to send the K060942 back and get the 6PK2390 ?

Thanks

MB part number is 011 997 97 92 6PK-2390.

Only technical data I have found for K060942 is outside circumference if 2407 mm. Which is like buying shoes by measuring length of the sole. ;)

I do know when I changed the belt on the 350, it was a very tight (I used a Gates belt). I thought we had the wrong belt we compared it as best as we could to the old. It was about spot on.

Can’t remember how we did it exactly but it was 2 of us. I pulled on the tensioner my daughter put it on all the ribbed pulleys and I think we slipped it over the non ribbed pulley last. If you try and put it on a ribbed pulley last it is very tight.

Same way I've done it on the neighbors in past.

Which Gates belt did you use ?
K060942 or the 6PK2390 ?
I don’t have access to the 350 today

But granted it is an 04 the old belt was ac delco it is in the garage ( I hang on to them for a just in case moment)

The labe on it is a 6k935 the gates number is

K060935 MICRO-V BELT

If you have the old and you can read it go here to Gates for what the correct crossover is . Difference it seems has to do with a change in the alternator?

From A429266 belt is shorter 6PK-2370. It has to do with smaller pulley on PS pump. It makes pump spin faster for better steering assist at idle.

As a general rule if you cannot make belt fit with tensioner locked you are not holding your mouth right or belt is too short. Water pump last. Tensioner cannot be bottomed out. There has to be some give.

Video on how to change it, with diagram and part number at 12:46. This is on a 2002 ML320. Although the 1998 had an older style pretensioner, I don't that would have made much of a difference.
