Some jackass will pay that for the axles. Sadly the 404 in general is worth more parted out.

"needs a complete rebuild" is just about the understatement of the year. As for scrap value, probably about 200/ton so what maybe 500 bucks if he has the rest of the mess to chuck into the hopper. Looks like buggy bait to me.

Are 404 axles still worth anything ? Reading the current 4X4 rags leads me to believe the buggy-boyz are all into 406/416 axles now...what with the portal housing breakage issues they all seemed to have.

They are still a popular choice. There are several portal upgrades for the boxes. Certainly not as hot ad they were, but the more budget minded still pick them up regularly.
