87 300D Turbo Sedan, 227k when the odometer broke.

The A/C doesn't work on my 87 300D, there is a huge leak in one of the lines and I am not going to fix it. I noticed that parts stores sell belts for non-A/C cars. Would deleteing the A/C just be a matter of ordering the different belt and pulling off the old parts or is is more involved than that?
