My 1990 500 SL has about 50,000 miles on it. When I put it in reverse, either from Park, or from Neutral, there is a delay of about 1.5 to 2 seconds before it engages and starts to move backwards. I've had a transmission service done, and the fluid levels are correct. Any suggestions?

I hope this is not to abnormal. My 1992 500SL does the same thing and I just replaced the rear main and transmission seals which required the transmission to be taken out. I was told the transmission looks great and I had the pump rebuilt.

Hmm, have to say my '90 300 pops straight into reverse immediately. As soon as you move the lever the engine revs drop straight away. Hope you don't get problems dude!
