A likely culprit is the license plate bulbs. Bulbs, as in plural. You pretty much have to get right up under there to see if they're both lit.

There's a sequence chart I put together that is in the W210 stickies, you can use it to help isolate the circuit they're on, sometimes that helps. But I'd first check those pesky tag bulbs. ;)

I get it from my fog lamps, one of them always seems to come on "late" like after hitting a bump (probably a bad bulb), took a few times of getting out and finding the bugger as it would usually be lit after driving.

I have the same problem with all the lights seeming to work, including the license plate lamps. Here's the kicker, I hit a racoon a while back on a highway, going about 75 mph and it broke the bumper where the foglamp is on left. That's when the indicator came on first, but I've replaced it and the indicator still comes on at random times.
