My ML chrome step bar WITH NO STEPS (picture below) suposedly came in today, I picked it up but there was steps I asked for no steps they said those were in the early ML's and DO NOT MAKE the older model (mine) anymore, they sold the rest they made and produced the new ones with the steps, I hate the look of the steps makes the ML look cheap, is this true they do not make them, if they don't is there anywhere I can buy them, my last resort is autobody shop, which I do not want to do

I am going to get an aftermarket navigation/dvd but out of fun I asked if the 98-99 could use the MCS navigation, they automatically said no, it is not wired, and it is not plug and play they made a stand alone navigation that you attach to your dash for the 98-99 but a MCS will not work, I saw the DIY on benzworld and it looked like you buy a MCS and its pretty plug and play, I told them about it and they said it would cost at least $7000 in extra wiring and not worth it, I dont want a MCS anyway but is this untrue?

Yep....

The older ones have been phased out. But the new ones are really just what you have but with the step pads. They're actually quite functional as the rocker guard ones (that you have) get scratched over time.

I dont want a MCS anyway but is this untrue?
Never ask a dealership about retrofitting OEM stuff in your ML. They simply do not have the time or the knowledge to investigate these things. It was through the hard work and ingenuity of a couple of our forum members here that a retrofit was developed for our friends with pre-'00 MLs [:)]

Oh and BTW, the MCS GPS system is actually very good. It's based on the Alpine system and is not only easy to use, but quite accurate!

I think it came with his ML, since they used to have what the called the M4 Off-road package, which included the brushguard, the side runners, and the mudflaps.

Ya, that I understand. But he said he ordered some with steps from the dealership. I just wanted to know what I'm looking at paying for those.

Cool ... thxs for letting me know. I'll see if I can get the ones without steps on my end. Maybe I get lucky and they still have a few left somewhere here in the south. I'll let you know if there are any extras in case you want a set as well.
