Ok so i go to the dealership to go get a parking light bulb. They asked me if i wanted a car wash, and i always thought they did a good job. I agreed to it because i just bought some new 16'' wheels and wanted to see them shine. Once i got my car i noticed a HUGE chip on my front hood. I talked to them saying the chip was from the car wash. The service manager came and told me that they would paint the whole hood, but i would have to wait until Monday. I made sure to get a written statement, and he gave me his card with "paint new hood" and his signature. I am fine with this solution, but worried that the color of the car's hood will be slightly off compared to the rest of the body. Thoughts suggestions?

BTW, this was at the Mercedes dealership in Buena Park, CA.

The chip is about 1 1/2 inches long... it's quite large and noticeable.

The new wheels

will be fine, they will blend it over and match it perfectly and you won't even notice.

+1 to ohlord's suggestion, they're usually quite good at blending, especially since they apparently do this rather frequently. :p

I'm thinking you need to go inspect the rest of the car, probably will find lots more chips everywhere else if you look closely enough...

If a hack does the job and simply matches up the factory paint code, then sure you are going to notice. If a pro does it and matches the current (faded) paint color, and does a good job, then you won't even be able to tell.

;) I don't think you have anything to worry about. At least the dealer is taking care of it and admitted they chipped it. I would rather have a dealer do it and match the paint as close as possible then some indie shop. I did read somewhere that the paint quality on our W210's was far below par of the previous years before the body change. I have little nics from driving if I look carefully and I nicked it myself by swinging the door open. Not too bad at all and because of the location the dealer told me if they touched it up it would be mire noticable. At least you are getting the whole hood done. I bet it will look better then it did before the chip happened!

I think the dealership brings the car outside the dealership to do the painting. Just make sure no other scratches occur on shipment to and from paint facility.

Good catch Ohlord!!! I looked and didn't see anything wrong!
Perhaps I was focused for extra chips.
