I guess there are dealers and there are dealers. I have 3 MB dealers close by, unfortunately for me the closest one is terrible and I could see them charging for such a thing.

I would definately call another dealer, heck I probably would send MB Corp. an email about the dealer doing this type of gouging.

A bit off topic here, but don't want to start a new thread. I bought a used radio from the junkyard today but the volume control is erratic. I tried the electrical cleaner trick and it worked fine for a bit, but now it's doing it again. I'm going back tomorrow and she's going to exchange the radio me for, but I would like to know what models where the best of these radios?

The one I have now is the 003 820 59 86 off a 96 S420. What model radio should I get, that will fit my 97SL?

I think the 99+ ones are optical connection, I could be wrong so it might be an issue if you have a CD changer.

How did you do the "electrical cleaner trick"? I've been dying to find out. My volume is one of those things that scare my passengers when they innocently try to turn up Vivaldi a few notches and it turns into that Maxell tapes commercial from the 80's.

What kind/brand of electrical spray is it? And how did you pull the volumn knob off?

I called Mercedes of Miami today and got three radio codes with no problem.

Go to Radio Shack and ask for electrical cleaner. It costs like $12. Pull the volume knob off spray and turn a few times. Good luck
