Took my SL 550 into my MB dealer for B service a few days ago. When returning to pick it up yesterday, my service advisor dispatched one of his porters to pull it around for me. When he drove in the service entrance we noticed that my front lower grille was missing and upon closer inspection realized the lower air dam facia was cracked and severely scratched on the bottom side.

Investigation revealed that one of the complimentary car washing employees had parked it in the staging area after service was completed and ran it up on the parking curb. We found the bent grille, paint chips on the ground in front of the parking block where the car had been parked.

Needless to say it was not reported but fortunately for me, we noticed it before I drove out. They gave me a loaner and will make full repair at the dealer's cost.

Lesson learned - whenever having your R230 worked on by a 3rd party, be sure to do a complete walk around inspection before taking delivery !!

F/UP; got the car back from the dealer; 100% perfect repair as they replaced the complete lower airdam assy with a new one, painted to match leaving no evidence of the repair. Have to admit, I was pleased with their response and care.

I had the same thing happen to my R129 last year. Idiot drove it over a lift backing out after replacing CATS, then denied doing it!

Glad yours worked out the way it did.
