Fuse

Have you tried looking at the fuse? Fusebox is generally located at the footwell of the passenger side compartment. Smallish plastic cover that pops off, and has a list of all fuses.

Just a thought ...

How have you determined there is no power at the socket? With a meter or by plugging something in it? The MB socket is a different size than regular, and some devices won't work in it.

...Also, if you are not aware, the socket is powered only when the key is on, or the engine running...

Pull the whole astray door off, there is a brass slide contact on the left side that weakens with age, clean it and pry it out a bit to make a better connection.

thanks to all

Wow, thanks for all the suggestions. I checked the fuse box, no issues. Then I pulled out the ashtray and frame unit and sure enough, there was enough build up of crud on the copper slider to prevent contact. I cleaned it up with some 600grit sandpaper and it looks like new again. Also cleaned the ashtray contact. Voila, connectivity has returned. THANKS to all.
