Let me start off by acknowledging two mistakes that I made: I went out of town for a month and did not disconnect the battery. When I came back and had a friend "jump" the battery, I misread the info in the manual and had the key in the ignition. I did, and I sadly admit.

So, the lights came on during the charging, but the engine would not turn over. I just heard a click noise. I let it charge for about five minutes, and then noticed the interior lights blinking, slowly at first and then quickly. Needless to say, I stopped charging the battery. 30 seconds after the charging stopped, the interior lights and dash were no longer on.

Any advice? It is a 99 E320 wagon.

Was it a jumping from other car battery or was it charging and if what kind of charger?
Blinking lights might indicate that old battery shorted out, but the only way to find out is get a tester and follow the voltage starting on battery posts.
In US Mercedes is giving lifetime free roadside assistance. I wonder if Italy has something similar.
Than I had several of my MB parked for 5 weeks with alarms on and they all started on their own power.
Good luck.

Unfortunately, I don't know the brand of charger. It was the type that is plugged into the wall outlet, and then connect the cables to the battery. I will try to get the information from my friend with the charger. Thanks. Unfortunately, over here, getting things that are taken for granted in the US (free service) takes a bit more work...lol.
