The knob on my new-to-me '81 is stiff as hell, but after working with it for awhile I've gotten it to turn about a 1/4 turn. How many revolutions should I be able to get that knob to turn? 1/2? A whole? Two? Can't find my answer through search.

You look like you've posted a ton, so I'm sure you know this, but I didn't at first. You have to push in the accelerator at the same time you turn the knob for it to be easy. I almost broke mine when I first got mine, lol.

Mine turns about 3/4 to a full revolution. Not sure what the specs are.

My knob is a bit frozen; the linkage is good and simple, but the knob has a lot of resistance. I've gotten it to about 1/2 a revolution (yes, using the accelerator at same time) and it's brought the revs up to where I want them, but I just wanted to know what "normal" would have been from factory. Thanks!

My idle knob on my W115 turns 1 1/2 turns.

I guess my cable was replaced, I don't need to press the pedal down while turning the knob.

More cars need these knobs -- I use mine daily in colder weather, for a spell.

Mine was recently replaced so consider it new. After pressing the accelerator pedal mine turns about 1/2 key turn to the left to be functional.

I had a couple of '82's, no starting issue. I understand they had the after glow relay.
Are your glow plugs good?
Glow plugs are good -- replaced just before winter, but I know I do need a new relay. Luckily, we don't get temps too bad here, but a couple of weeks ago, we got down into the mid teens, which presented a few problems, lol.

This summer, I'm going to really get to work on a few issues. I absolutely love this car and can't imagine my life without it.

^ Okay, you're going to have to use the tall pedal a bit at first.
Yes, my owners manual says to depress the accerlator 1/2 of its travel when starting below 53 degrees or something like that. Just don't rev the motor up until you have oil pressure.
