Weird, my Japanese V6 has odd number cylinders on one side and even number cylinders on the other side. Appears there is not a standard industry convention for numbering cylinders on V engines?

No, there is no standard. The manufacturer can label the cylinder numbers any way they choose. You typically see either them in sequence starting with the driver's side but there is no right or wrong.
