I have a 2001 e320 4matic with 103,000 miles. I have violent shaking and a gas smell at idle. I parked it and returned the next day to start it up and got all cylinder misfires from bank 2. I replaced plugs and wires in Decemeber 05 about 45,000 miles ago and a new battery in sept.2007. The codes are as follows.....
Pending codes
P0300 Multiple/Random Misfire Detected
MIL DTC
P0300 Multiple/Random Misfired Detected
P0304 Misfire detected in cylinder 4
STORED CODES
P0304 Misfire detected in cylinder 4
P0306 Cylinder 6 misfire detected
P0306 Cylinder 6 misfire detected
P0150 Oxygen sensor fault, Left side, Post Catalyst
P0305 Misfire detected in cylinder 5

Parameter Description Value
DTC for which Freeze Frame was Stored P0300
Fuel System 1 Status Closed Loop
Fuel System 2 Status Closed Loop
Calculated LOAD Value 41.96 %
Engine Coolant Temp 174.20 °F
Short Term Fuel Trim - Bank 1 0.00 %
Long Term Fuel Trim - Bank 1 7.81 %
Short Term Fuel Trim - Bank 2 -14.06 %
Long Term Fuel Trim - Bank 2 8.59 %
Intake Manifold Absolute Pressure 19.84 inHg
Engine RPM 1,975.00 rpm
Vehicle Speed Sensor 56.54 mph

It seems as though the short term fuel trim is running rich, if anyone can chime in on what that might mean that would be a huge help. Although any suggestions would be appreciated. I would have to tow the car to a dealership if I cant find a d.i.y solution.

Did you by chance drive the car fast through a puddle of water? If so you may have water in your spark plug holes causing havoc.

At 100K+ miles, eliminate O2 sensor problem by swapping left sensor to right, right to left to see if bank 1 becomes the trouble. There are 2 pairs, front and rear. Use a special $10 socket to remove the sensor. Don't forget to apply some anti-seize ($1 a pack) if the replacement is permanent.

The culprit was a bad injector, cylinder 5. Found fuel in my oil, and it was all over bank 2 but mostly in cylinder 5. Thanks to all that give there help
