The Transport Canada site shows a recall for some CVT's from 2011.

It shows that some CVT's main chain drive can show excess wear or fail and MB will inspect them and ?? repair ??....or replace the CVT.

This might be a good starting point for all CVT owners here that are experiencing CVT problems.. If enough of you contact them with your CVT problems and MB's lack of support and refusal to address this problem, maybe this could help many of you with some type of relief .

Food for thought...

Many thanks, pity that South Africa is not doing the same. I have B170 with transmission error. When I read all the complaints about the A&B class transmission problems, it sounds like this CVT gearbox has THOUSANDS of complaints. Mercedes should correct this.
Also pity that so many people has to pay big $$$ for what I call, a factory problem.

There needs to be some sort of organization from each country to keep track of this.

Of course each complaint needs to be backed up with proof of maintenance at a minimum.

Yes, I understand if its a design flaw it means a part is doomed to fail, but IF it fails and you
let 5000 kms go past your CVT service, then that would be less in your favour. I'm sure other
bouts of abuse may be involved, but that is more difficult to prove such as towing, racing/aggresive
driving, insufficient warm up in very cold weather, wrong fluid, fluid loss, etc.

There might be a "plan B" if the CVT owners in Canada could contact each other ,..and had a bit of time on your hands,..or a bit of free time with your cars.

Let's say there are 10 of you in the Toronto area with bad B Class CVT's and you get together. MB hates bad publicity....so each of you park your car in front of separate MB dealerships with a huge "yellow lemon placard" on the roof of your B on the same day.

Get the media involved and they will carry it on their news. MB will definitely come out and address your problem. Having a B Class out in front with a huge negative sign is very bad for business and they should make a generous offer,..especially if you have already tried to address this problem with them..

I know that this tactic works,..just remember to say that your B is bad..and not attack all MB's..

..again this would take some coordinated planning.....and getting the media involved is essential for this to work..

I had a Montreal friend who did this a few times for different problems .."and it worked each time".. On one occasion it was a car rustout problem, and on another it was a municipal sewer problem..

Cvt owner. 2010 b class 103,000 k, last night car goes into "limp home mode" in 2nd gear, with "transmission service required " on dash. Car 13 years old, less than 8 k a year. All services done. Is this complete failure ? Do we even know until transmission is opened up ?

The majority of CVT issues are related to the electronics side of things (TCM) as opposed to the actual physical transmission. If that is the case, then you may need to have your TCM/TCU shipped off to Dorval for repair:
