Guys,

I am disassembling the CV's on my CL600 W215 (I believe same CV configuration as the W220 chassis). I got the CV out, took the inner portion of it apart and came to a stop when I looked at the end of the shaft and didn't find the usual C-clips that most cars have. This thing has like pressed in clips.

Has anyone of you ever seen this? Gotten this off somehow? If I go in and disassemble the outer side will it have the same configuration on the end of the shaft?

Please advise!!! car is apart and I need to get it back together asap!

Thanks!

So from my understanding I need to just press it out without getting those "taps" released and they will break and then I need to somehow re-apply new "taps" with a "Caulker"? What's a caulker? Does anyone have a picture of that device?

I am wondering if I could use a large C-Clip instead...

I've appended the tools referred to in the work instruction pdf that pinkster so kindly shared to this post. The caulker as it turns out is no more than a punch for staking.

As to using a "C" clip, who is going to cut the groove into the shaft and what's to keep the star from moving in the opposite direction?

This securing method was well thought out even to the point of stating that up to 6mm of teeth can be broken out and the spline can still be re-used. They planned ahead for a least one or two rebuilds.
