Hi everyone,

I had changed the driver side of my driveshaft at a cost of 1600. The left side is costing me 1400 and I just cant afford it. I found this driveshaft on ebay. I wouldl like to confirm if anyone can check the link below and let me know if it fits. The cars steering wheel is on the right side where ours is on the left side. Does this matter or not. In the links description, it states it fits.

New Genuine * GSP * CV Drive Shaft for MERCEDES BENZ B200 W245 A/T - LH | eBay

im having to change both of my drive shaftes as im getting a judder sort of vibrartion under loads around 2500 rev at low speed not at allhardly at higher speed and if i floor it just for a few secs.. but lucky i have warrenty, mer charge 650 for the drivers side and 600 for the left. but im having to go threw complete reconditoined so as good as new costing around 180
to 200 each. a garage who does mercs are putting on for me are charging 167 plus vat for both. so a big saving.

Had to get a new one from dealer. I think soon aftermarket ones will be available. On my left hand one, the boot was worn out. I should probably have bought a boot kit and seen if that fix my problem(clicking sound when wheel turned all the way) but I think I was too late.

Had to replace it.
uk has pleanty of places now that recondition thr drive shaft to new condition but they do need the drivers side sent to them as has a different bearing on and has to be rite. so im having to have my car put on the ramp for 2days turn around . being done week after next yippi.the warranty service is very good and i have the ultimate cover so is being dont thre them. just costing me time thats it.

My 2010 C300 with about 65000 on it just had a catastrophic part failure (front axle-L). Now this is low mileage on a 5yr old auto. What the heck! And, I just had the car in (5days ago) for a major service - No issues, just routine. ? Did they do something, or did they miss something?

Mercedes Vancouver inspection found my 2008 B200 (CVT,65k km) RF CV boot and center axle leaking. Shaft replacement quoted at $1504 + 4hr labour $592, + taxes.

Rockauto now list Shaftec ME143R and ME137R for CAD$280 and $263 (including $29 core charge) the difference being "with or without RS collar". Anyone know what an "RS collar" is? Road speed sensor? Rockauto don't know.

Shaftec seem to be a substantial operation in Birmingham, UK......Rockauto show a 2day Fedex ship to Vancouver of $99.....but are hard for end users to reach to confirm details. Given what seem like a large number of possible part variations (Mercedes parts lists even show "heavy duty" options for taxi use) I would not want to incur multiple shipping charges for wrong part orders.

There is a North American alternative with Cardone, but for B200 you must send your part to be rebuilt on 3 to 5 day turnaround, again through a dealer. The only Canadian dealers are in Toronto, so Birmingham seems a lot closer.

Any recent advice or experience will be amply rewarded in your next life. :)

You'd somehow think that any MB INDY shop would know how to send the needed parts to a driveshaft shop to make this repair/rebuild,..and then all that they would have to do is install the rebuilt shaft..

This is not rocket science.. It's just the dealer trying to make everything as difficult and costly as possible for us...

There has to be shops that rebuild driveshafts in every city....There are only a few standard bearing company's (***..SKF.etc...) and they make all of the needed bearings for the whole industry..

The repair shop would have to strip the shaft and then order the needed bearing from the stamped # on the bearing outer race..

If you end up buying a new shaft or two at M-B, keep the old ones as cores and have them rebuilt, then sell them to someone else and recover a lot of your costs.

Funny you should ask that. I have the exact figure at work but it's around 17,000 by memory. I will check and let you know.

18,083 B Classes of the 245 series were sold in Canada. I think I may need shafts before 300K km.

Welcome Mariz...:beerchugr:

Please give us more info as there are 2 shafts at the front(R orL). You probably need one new shaft or a boot to be changed. Try to find an INDY MB garage (Google search..?) willing to fix the shaft or find a used replacement at the scrap yard.

A new shaft is probably very expensive ..

Can someone give me an idea of the cost to fix the front passenger axle on a 2009 b200t? And if anyone is from Toronto or Halifax, maybe you can let me know a good place to get it done least cost.
Hi Mariz,
As Devours mentioned, a little more detail will really help. There are two drive shafts and it would help to know why they need replacing. If they are grinding, then they would need to be replaced, but is it because of a CV boot failure. If the CV boot is torn, but the drive shaft is not grinding and relatively free of debris, then it may be salvagable and just the boot needs replacing. But there are 2 boots per shaft, so need to know which one. In any case, here is an approx break down of labour costs. If it is removing and replacing drive shaft, expect about 1.3 hours of labour. If it is a CV boot only, the outer one is about $70 for a kit, and I don't have the cost of the inner one. A new shaft would cost you about $1200. Hope this helps you with your decision.

B Broke down at Ottawa this Saturday while returning from tulip Festival. Suspect CV Axle failure. Car won't accelerate when I press the gas pedal. Wondering how much this will cost me.

Unless it was accompanied by lots of grinding and rumbling beforehand, it's not likely the CV. More likely, the CVT.

My CV joint (at least one) is getting grumbly and will require replacement well before 300K km. Sad, because my Peugeot 405 went all the way to 366,000 km on its original, QUIET CV joints.

Sorry this happened to you. Sounds more like a Transmission issue than a CV failure. A sudden CV failure would sound quite catastrophic, and usually there is plenty of troublesome noise that would precede it. Like days, weeks or months or grinding. I think the electronics in your CVT have finally separated. And you may need your valve body pulled from the CVT and repaired. Best of Luck. There is plenty of info on that in this forum, and a guy in Bulgaria that can help for a decent price. I don't know of any shops near you that may be able to help, as I'm on the West Coast.
